What objects teach us about migration

Wien Museum

1040 Vienna, Karlsplatz 8

Grades 7–12

Migration is part of Vienna’s history and has significantly shaped the city and its society. Yet it is often presented in public discussions either as a one-sided issue or a problem. Which other stories can the objects in the museum tell us? What experiences, emotions, and interpretations are involved?

We help the pupils as they get these objects to speak. We work in small groups, researching the stories connected to these objects. We want to jointly explore the complexity of migration. And, in doing so, we will shed light on aspects of marginalization and, above all, on the demands of migrants and their everyday lives.
